Neverwhere is certainly of my favorite books. Neil Gaiman may very well be my favorite author. The thing I love about his writing style is that the pictures in my head become extremely well formed. I see the characters and locations clearly when reading his books, which leads me to want to see them in cinematic form. Probably my visions of what could be as a film, would be smashed and ruined forever if the books actually became films. I can't speak for Stardust I haven't read the book. Sometimes I run across people or places and I say "Ah Ha!" that would be perfect for_______. I had one of those realizations today. There is much talk on fan boards who would play who and what not for Neverwhere. There is a character in the book Angel Islington, who is very androgynous. Which really an angel should be right? Many have said that Tilda Swinton would make a good Islington but for me I wanted a bit more masculinity and I don't think her voice would do either. I've decided the best person to play the Angel Islington is Brian Molko from the band Placebo.

I also got the Placebo's album "Battle for the Sun" from the library and I really like it. I realized Placebo has been around for a long time. I've been listening to them since I was in high school!
So ever since I heard Justin Timberlake covered Hallelujah for the Haiti thing, I've been intrested to hear his take on it. I finally looked it up on Youtube today. I'll post it you let me know what you think.. This is one of my all time favorite songs. Many have covered it, some are good and some are awful. I'll give you some different versions, decide which you like best.
First I'll let you hear the original from Leonard Cohen.
Cohen's version gives me chills. Hands down he is truly the master of this song.
Jeff Buckley, this is the first time I heard this song.
I believe this will always be my favorite cover. Buckley's guitar and voice are so haunting in this version.

Eh...let's try it a touch faster and with more FEELING! I think JT has got a great voice but this version totally blows. I'm going to have to rate Bon Jovi higher on the list and they didn't even sing the whole song. I realize you know maybe the third verse isn't really cohesive with the telethon but it's my favorite verse and I think it is really where the depth of the song comes into play.

So my Lyrics of the Day for today are about a bittersweet memory I had while I was listening to DCFC after I dropped off my recycling. I remembered the moment almost two years ago now when I lost Stevedave. I was holding him in my arms as he took his last breath. I was thankful he was with me and G-mom his two favorite people on the planet, but grief stricken I had lost him in just under two weeks. Whew it has seriously been FOREVER since I posted. Tons of stuff has happened since then and I will just try to be a better blogger from here on out. I think I actually say that in every post, but I mean business this time. I have so much to share, so much I've been doing recently and many many creative projects have been started and some have been completed. More on those things later I need to run to the library to pick up some books.
P.S. My Dad's quilt status= not finished, same as last post YIKES!
So why is the quilt top not finished, why isn't the whole damn quilt finished? Three words
Lack of Focus :/
I get really excited about projects get about 1/4 of the way and start a new project, I have three laundry baskets full of half finished projects. I had a lot of momentum in January and it has faded a bit. This coming week I'm going to try really hard to finish my prairie point pillow I have 3 rows done out of 16 . EEK!!!
I also really need to get my scarf done and my February bag as it will soon be march, but because of my love for pink, candy, and hearts I will probably rock it for the rest of winter, and part of spring.

Rage against the Machine- YES I was very productive, however I don't know how I feel about sewing and cutting while simultaneously singing out loud " You got bullet in your fucking head"
Brandi Carlile- YES excellent for ironing small pieces of fabric, and great for early morning getting started to work music
The Decemberists- YES fun and very productive I love to sing out loud along with them
Tomorrow my goal is to take pictures of the finished projects and the semi-finished projects and actually post them. And to at least finish another block of my dad's quilt, good thing there's not a time that it "has" to be finished.
I think I'll have some tea in the morning with Brandi Carlile and then get moving with some Rage...Know your Enemy...mine is procrastination.
So the quilt top is not quite finished, but I'm coming along really good on it. It should be done tonight.
In the meantime I put down the rotary cutter for a few minutes to find out which tarot card I am. I'm quite pleased with the results

Well it's been awhile, opps. The end of last year is all kind-of a blur. I have been sewing quite a bit though. Pictures to come soon, by soon I mean by the end of the day ;) . Today I'm working on a quilt for my Dad I'm piecing the quilt top and also doing some embroidery on it as well. I'm hoping, no I will be done with the quilt top today!
I've been experimenting what I listen to while I'm sewing. Here are the results so far:
Tegan and Sara= YES
Motion City Soundtrack = Yes
Al Green = No I love that man but I was about to fall asleep at the cutting table
Otis Redding = YES
Sufjan Stevens = No again sleepy, but may be a good choice for when I'm painting fabric
SO far this year I've made: 3 Stockings, a purse, a table runner, a crayon bag ( a pattern I made myself), a duck, and I think that's is so far. All of this done in January 2008 I think that's pretty darn good.
OK no back to lunch, and then back to the cutting table
I play in all areas of my life. I try to make "art". Mostly I just make useful things like table runners and whatnot. I'm on facebook constantly. I love music, especially lyrics which find their way into my sketchbooks with hopes of one day becoming an art quilt.
